Commemorative Plaques Wording

poem by Gonzalo Rojas Gonzalo Rojas A poem (20-XII- 1917-1925-IV-2011)

On Monday died April 25 in Santiago de Chile, the poet Gonzalo Rojas, belonging, in Chile, to the Generation of 1938. He was one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century latinaomericanos. From their website http://www.fundaciongonzalorojas.cl/el_poeta/poema_01.html , take this poem that belongs to his book Against death (1964).

What do you love when you love?
What do you love when you love, my God
terrible light of life or light of death?
What is sought, what is, what is this: love?
Who is it? The woman with her depth, her roses, her
[volcanoes
or this red sun is my blood
furious when I enter it until the last roots?
Or all is a great game, my God, and there is no man or woman
one body: yours,
stars distributed in beauty, in particular visible glimpses of eternity?
I die in this, oh God, this war
to go back and forth between them in the streets, unable to love
three hundred at a time, because I'm always condemned by one, to that one, that one you gave me in the old paradise.
